The market for military electro-optic systems will increase from 2.9 billion U.S. dollars in 1984 to 4.8 billion U.S. dollars in 1989, and will increase to 5.7 billion U.S. dollars in 1994. As the procurement costs of electro-optical devices increase, it will continue to occupy a larger share of the defense budget. The adjustment or reduction of the defense budget is not expected until the 1988 presidential election. However, strategic analysts believe that at the end of this century and the beginning of the next century, there will be momentum for continued growth in spending worldwide. In the major changes in defense spending, the procurement of military electro-optic systems will be affected less than other budgetary components and will continue to grow steadily. The average annual growth rate during the five years between 1984 and 1988 was 10.5%, and the average annual growth rate between 1988 and 1994 will be
