During the Fourth Republic of France, Jeanne Laurent, deputy director of the department of theater and music in the country, laid the groundwork for a public theater system and a theater extra-provincial campaign; Jean Avila’s Avignon Theater Festival and the restart of the National Public Theater attempted to reproduce Utopian ideal of popular drama. Charles de Gaulle, Minister of Culture, vigorously develop cultural undertakings, public theater construction and public theater networks continue to expand. At this moment, “popular drama” became the position that intellectuals were looking for a new “fighting spirit.” It also set off for the first time in France the “Brechtian-style revolutionary whirlwind.” After the storm in May 1968, the popular theater Utopia went disillusioned. Murnushkin’s Sun Theater is still pursuing this myth.
