In recent years, more and more South Korean products have entered the Chinese market. From cars, color TVs, air conditioners, digital products, cosmetics, kitchen utensils, and flower headdresses favored by women, Korean products have become increasingly popular among ordinary Chinese consumers Accepted. This is only an epitome of closer economic and trade cooperation between China and South Korea in recent years. According to Chinese customs statistics, the bilateral trade volume between China and South Korea reached 440.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2002, nearly eight times the 1992 bilateral diplomatic relations. From January to May this year, the bilateral trade volume between China and South Korea reached 22.74 billion U.S. dollars, up 44.5 percent over the same period of last year. Among them, China’s exports reached 7.18 billion U.S. dollars and its imports 15.56 billion U.S. dollars, up 27.7 percent and 53.9 percent respectively over the same period of last year. South Korea has become China’s fifth largest trading partner, the fourth largest exporter and the third largest source of imports. Economic and trade experts conservatively predicted that the trade volume between China and South Korea will exceed 50 billion U.S. dollars in 2004. And investment has become the main driving force for the rapid growth of trade between China and South Korea. According to statistics from the Department of Commerce of the Asian Ministry of Commerce, in 2002, China approved a total of 4,008 ROK investments in China with a contract value of 5.28 billion U.S. dollars and a real use value of 2.72 billion U.S. dollars. As of the end of May this year, the total investment by Korean companies in China reached 30.31 billion U.S. dollars, with a real use of 16.49 billion U.S. dollars. South Korea has become China’s sixth largest source of foreign funds.
