Having leed English for more than ten years,many of us still cannot carry on simple conversations or read simple news-papers.As to the reason,scholars hold different points of view.I m strongly in favor of Li Yings point of view:Qualified English teachers are short-handed (Li Ying,The Problems in English Teaching in China) and Jinxin Dai s:focusing on test performance rather than practical ability (Jinxin Dai,Teaching English Through Play in a Chinese Classroom).
