Fulminant type 1 diabetes (F1D) is a novel subtype of type 1 diabetes (T1DM) proposed by Imagawa et al. [1] in 2000. The incidence of β-cell disruption, hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis (DKA) progresses extremely rapidly. The pathogenesis remains to be elucidated, however, the genetic background (in particular the human leukocyte antigen gene HLA) and the virus is thought to be associated with the onset of the disease. The type of diabetes was hyperacute onset, if not diagnosed and treated, often leading to death in patients with short-term, is critically ill.
