Administrators looking to consolidate the rapidly expanding network of directories have been eagerly looking forward to Novell’s NDS and Microsoft’s Active Directories. But as they learn more about these new directory structures, they increasingly recognize that it takes a long way to reach their single-directory goals. While people are tired of waiting, the advent of metadirectories has provided a popular middle ground solution as a shortcut to a single directory. Metadirectory allows administrators to import user data into a pipeline for preparation for moving to a single directory. In addition, metadirectory is being used to achieve a permanent connection between the host and the new application.
