During the period from 1988 to 1989 (as of September 1), 30 communications satellites were launched in the world, including 9 in Europe, 7 in Japan, 6 in the United States, 5 in the international satellite organization and 3 in other countries. Sixteen of these satellites were used as domestic communications systems, six for international or regional communications systems, six for television live broadcast systems and two for tracking and data relay satellite systems. By the end of 1988, there were about 1,850 36MHz transponders in use in the world, including 33% in the International Telecommunications Union, 36% in the United States, 6% in Canada, 8% in Europe and 4% in Japan. Other countries (excluding Soviet Union and China) together accounted for 13%. According to the analysis, by 1992, the number of transponders put into operation may increase to 2,500, the international communications organization will account for about 31%, the United States may account for 29%, Canada 5%, and Europe
