In this paper, a new sensor based on the principle of induction has been developed for recording fetal movement and fetal tone. The compliance of this sensor (INPHO) can be matched to that of the maternal abdomen to provide optimal transfer of displacement between the maternal abdomen and the sensor so that it can be digitally filtered with the INPHO signal in the frequency range 0.5-2.0 Hz To detect fetal respiratory movement. Single-breath exercise testing can be performed, as demonstrated by real-time ultrasound imaging. The INPHO sensor’s flat frequency response is 0.2 to 200 Hz and the sensor-system signal-noise ratio is better than 9.5 dB, allowing for very weak motion and sound to be detected. Spectral analysis of the processed signal shows that fetal respiration is
