目前,计算机设备之间的连接方式大致有两种:串行口和红外线端口。串行口是计算机设备的必备接口,但它必须通过一根电缆连接,显得有些累赘;红外装置则为今天的便携、桌面共享办公环境带来了更好的灵活性。红外线是一种不可见的电磁辐射,以大于可见光而比那些微波波长短的波长传播。现在,越来越多的电子设备装配了红外端口,支持无限传输,为用户带来了很大方便。其实,红外线端口和串行口在本质上是一样的,只是其传输数据时所用的介质不同罢了。它的工作很像调制解调器(Modem)通过电话线的操作原理。
