渥沦·哈特葛伦在年轻的时候曾经是一名挖砂工人。长年累月的劳作使他萌发了必须要成就自己的人生事业的欲望——想要成为研究南非树蛙的专家。按照哈特葛伦所受的教育,本来他不具备这方面的才能,但是他从1969年开始就把大部分的时间和精力用在了研究上。他每天都收集150个标本,共做了300万字的笔记,终于找到了南非树蛙的生活规律,并从这些蛙类的身上提取到一种世界上极为罕见的能预防皮肤病的药物,从而一举成名,获得了哈佛大学的博士学位,并成为美国《时代》周刊的封面人物。他曾经问过一个年轻人,是否了解南非树蛙。年轻人坦白地回答:“不知道。”
Otto Hartgren used to be a sand-digger when he was a young man. Years of work have given him the urge to succeed in his own life - to become an expert on tree frogs in South Africa. According to Hart Glenda's education, he did not have this talent, but he has spent most of the time since 1969 in research. He collected 150 specimens a day, made a total of 3 million words of notes, and finally found the life of the South African tree frogs, and from these frogs who extract to a very rare in the world can prevent skin diseases and thus Fame, won a Ph.D. from Harvard University, and became the cover of Time magazine in the United States. He had asked a young man if he knew South African tree frogs. The young man answered frankly: “I do not know.”
