Objective: To investigate the changes and significance of EEG and brainstem evoked potentials in severe hand-foot-mouth disease. Methods: Sixty children with clinically diagnosed severe hand-foot-mouth disease admitted to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) were randomly selected from March 1, 2012 to March 1, 2014 in our hospital. Patients in the observation group were severe hand-foot-mouth disease EEG and BEAP were performed in the early stage. The control group was routinely diagnosed and treated as the condition changed. The incidence of critically ill patients and the probabilities of the two groups were compared. Results: The incidence of critically ill patients in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group. Conclusion: The detection of EEG and brainstem evoked potentials in early stage of severe HFMD and early intervention can reduce the incidence and the chance of critically ill patients, which is of certain significance.
