Some aluminum mills use two methods to make fluorinated clumps: one is to pre-wet powdered aluminum fluoride, one that is not wetted, that is, dried by a dry process. Based on available laboratory and industrial data, this measure ensures that the scarce fluorine consumption is greatly reduced. According to previous studies, increasing the moisture (15-30%) of the fluoride salt directly affects the strength of the pellets, especially when using aluminum fluoride powders.
