In the first half of 1967, Bruce Lee opened a martial arts hall in Chinatown in Los Angeles. Li Kai and Jerry Bubote were among the first to enroll in the martial arts gymnasium and were selected for training in the small class by Bruce Lee. Dan also participated in the training of small classes, including Dan Iluoshan, Steve Golden, Bob Bremer and Peter Jack. This family small class trainer is fortunate to have two private lessons outside Brunei Darussalam per week (in Bruce Lee’s home on Wednesday night and closed doors on Saturday morning in the streets of Chinatown) in addition to public training at the SPF Pavilion. That was more than 30 years ago. Today, members of the small class go their separate ways. Li Kai worked as a engineer in a lab to study shuttle work too, and taught Taiji at Pasadena City College when he was free, as he retired and taught Taiji and Jeet Kune Do at a seminar. After many years of trying to escape everyone’s eyes, Jerry Bubote re-entered the arena and began to teach Jeet Kune Do. He recently taught small classes at his home in California. (Translator’s Note: Jerry runs the Jeet Kune Do column all year long in Kung Fu, the United States.) Now, Li Kai and Jerry Bubote regrouped together, recalling the past.
