Based on the theories of psycholinguistic perspective in language teaching and communicative approach in language learning,this paper focuses on some tangible obstacles confronted by the Chinese students in their reading in line with the author’s own study experiences. The paper attempts to clarify and illustrate some aspects of the nature of reading. If the students fail to understand the nature of reading,they will adopt inappropriate and ineffective reading strategies;if teachers fail to do so,they will be unable to help the students to develop effective reading skills. The paper is also an attempt at overcoming the obstacles existing between writers and readers as well as facilitating the latter to become more effective.
