北五味子(Schizandra chinensis Baill.)是医学和民间医学中广泛应用的药用植物,它的果实很早就用作强壮兴奋剂。苏联远东地区的土著居民常在紧张活动时(追捕野兽、捕鱼和伐木等)食其果实。俄罗斯和乌克兰民间除食其果实外,还用它的茎和根茎代茶饮,作为预防疲劳的药剂并给以较高的评价。北五味子的营养器官有令人愉快的气味,并有稳定泡沫的特性,因亦用于制造啤酒。北五味子的果实由果皮、果肉和坚硬的果核(种子)所组成。果皮的表皮和种皮是含芳香物质的主要部分。北五味子的果实中含有酚类化合物、维生素、有机酸、脂肪和糖类。果汁中的总酸量达9.11%,其中有酒石酸3%,枸椽酸52%,苹果酸40%,琥珀酸4%和
Schizandra chinensis Baill. Is a widely used medicinal plant in medicine and folk medicine whose fruit has long been used as a strong stimulant. Indigenous peoples in the Far East of the Soviet Union often eat their fruits during periods of intense activity (chasing beasts, fishing and logging, etc.).
