The Life of Man is the masterpiece of Andreyjev’s philosophical drama. The play, with a strong narrative tendency, formed a rebellion against the Aristotelian tradition of dramatic imitation. Narrative factors embodied in the fragment scene and the narrator’s setup, they are the formal basis of the dramatic shift of the soul. At the same time, drama uses absurdity, contrast, distortion and absurdity to abstract the reality so as to maximize its subjectivity. This emotional effect is created to reveal the tragic nature of human existence. All of these are in line with the artistic pursuit of expressionism. Therefore, interpreting Human’s Life from the perspective of expressionism will help to understand Andreyev’s pessimistic thinking.
