在毛主席“备战、备荒、为人民”的伟大战略方针指引下,我厂积极响应上级党委关于“大搞地方办电”的指示,将上级交给我厂制造6500瓩水轮机原设计中的全部铸、锻钢件都改用稀土镁球铸件,它占整机总重的76.86％。第一台水轮机安装在广东佛山地区河排水电站,于1972年9月26日试机运转,至今仍继续发电使用。6500瓩水轮机以球铁代钢的零件见表19。
