The fluctuation of crude oil price is the driving force for the sustainable development of drilling technology, but the development of drilling technology itself does not depend on the price of oil. To further optimize the drilling process, especially for deepwater drilling operations, we developed a casing drilling system. The Casing Drilling System (“CDS”) has changed the traditional drilling process, saving on rig time. The system’s primary design objective is to address issues such as deep-sea drilling operations in offshore platforms and land-drilling cluster wells, as well as rapid drilling and casing management in areas prone to problems. The system includes both traditional downhole tools such as drill bits, mud motors, MWD / LWD instruments and some of the newly developed downhole tools. This system can be used on any type of rig, drills various sizes of boreholes, and can use wire ropes or drill pipes to recover a downhole casing drilling assembly. This article describes the tools used in this casing drilling system and their operation. Preliminary field drilling data show the practical value of the system, but also learned some lessons
