The Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Ricupero recently pointed out that due to the slowdown in the global economic growth and the implementation of trade protectionism in Europe and the United States, international trade will continue to be severely affected this year, and it is expected that the global trade volume this year will only increase by about 3.5% from last year. It is the lowest level since the 1990s. Ricupero, former finance minister of Brazil, stated in an exclusive interview with the Brazilian business daily that due to the slowdown of economic growth in Europe and the fact that the Japanese economy has not fully recovered, the global economic growth this year is about 1.5% to 2%. It was below the level of 4% in 1997 and 2.5% in 1998. Ricupero said that the growth rate of global trade in the past 30 years is usually two percentage points higher than the economic growth rate. The economic contraction has seriously affected the development of trade.
