The concentration (c) of the element being defined inquantitative local analysis is evaluated by means of thecalculated or experimental calibrated characteristic I(c). It isusually plotted with the assumption that the specimen ishomogeneous in the emitting area. Remarkable systematic errors inmicroprobe analysis of heterogeneous materials can result withthis assumption especially if the materials are highlydistinguished in the adjacent phases investigated.
