Sickle cell traits (SCTs) have been a controversial condition in the aviation medical community for many years. Some people think that SCT is of no particular significance and is entirely a benign condition, at least at medium altitudes. Some people think SCT is a serious symptom, the patient must stop flying. Arguments can be basically summarized in two questions: (1) Can flight crew members with SCTs conduct flight training? (2) If such aircrews have recently discovered an intrinsic character, can they be allowed to carry out their mission? To this end, The SCT will have to check to see its relationship with the flight altitude and its dangers. The incidence of SCT among black and native Mediterranean populations is high. The diagnosis of pure SCT, to be done quantitative electrophoresis analysis to rule out
