Dastre first used the term fibrinolysis (fibrinolysis) in 1893 and fibrinolysis refers to the dissolution of polymerized fibrin. Coagulation and fibrinolysis are normal in both systems; once the imbalance is prone to fatal thrombotic or hemorrhagic disease. Severe stress caused by trauma or surgery can disrupt both systems. MacFarlane first discovered the lysis of fibrin clots after surgery. Later, it was found that the fibrinolytic activity in the blood could be changed during surgery and could be affected by anesthesia.
