作为“西部散文”的代表,周涛借助他所描写的西部自然,将散文从“自己的园地”和“社会的牢笼”中解放出来,极大地扩展了散文所表现的“世界”。从生态学角度来看,周涛的散文一方面集中展示了人类“主宰”下自然世界的千疮百孔,另一方面也描绘出一幅现代人精神上的荒凉图景。在生存的双重危机面前,周涛在散文中以一种艺术的思维抵抗着“世界的图像化”进程,并主动以对话的态度去打破人与自然的对立使得周涛的散文表现出一种“回归”的力量。
