Contamination of Hemorrhagic Escherichia coli O_ (157): H7 and other virulent enteric pathogens in meat, poultry and even drinking water can pose serious health risks. Traditional methods of basal culture detect gut pathogens in food and water sources more slowly and the results may be inaccurate. Immunomagnetic separation (IMS) and detection methods are considered promising for rapid bacterial testing in food and environmental specimens.
