- This paper presents the investigation on the susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking of pre-stressed high strength steel wires in a saturated Ca(OH)2 plus NaCl solution simulating concrete by using prenotchcd specimens. The tests are conducted by means of stress corrosion testing under axial tension and cantilever bending respectively. The effects of chloride concentration, admixtures, electric potentials, pH values, coupling metals, O2 and N2 on the susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking of high strength steel wires are studied. Through the study, some essential information about the susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking of high strength steel wires in prestressed concrete for ocean engineering, its influence factors and protective measures has been obtained.
