In recent years, with the development of free radical medicine and free radical biology, a large number of studies have shown that the complications caused by chronic diseases are closely related to free radical damage. Diabetes, as one of the typical chronic diseases, is mainly caused by an excess of blood glucose in the body, an increase in the free radicals produced by the oxidation of sugar and a non-enzymatic modification of the protein, ie, an increase in non-enzymatic glycation. In this paper, we summarize the recent researches on the reduction of reducing monosaccharides in human body in order to promote the development and screening of drugs targeting diseases caused by free radical damage caused by oxidation or glycosylation of sugar. The paper mainly includes some basic biochemical information of sugar, the role of sugar autooxidation in diseases, especially chronic diseases, and their causes, the catalytic effect of transition metal on sugar autoxidation, the effect of antioxidants on auto-oxidation of sugar And the impact of glycosylation and so on.
