In the past two years, the value of providing laser equipment for the U.S. Department of Defense has increased significantly as well as laser research. However, in the next few years, the military market is obviously changing and fragmented in terms of changes in the type and value of equipment over time. World market research firm Frost Sullivan recently released a conclusion of market research. According to the company’s figures, the laser research results and equipment sold to the Ministry of Defense were US$2.39 billion in the 1985 fiscal year. In 1986, it is estimated that it will jump to US$3.33 billion and the rate of increase will be greater than 35%. However, this speed cannot be sustained. Market researchers estimate that sales of military lasers will peak in the 1986 fiscal year, about $3.9 billion; by fiscal year 1991, they would have dropped to about $3.44 billion.
