Based on the survey data of Beijing urban residents’ social network in 2000, this paper explores the influence of class status of urban residents on the role relationship of social networks from the perspective of rational choice. The results show that except for the frequency of contact with parents and other relatives, the cost factors that influence social interaction are not supported by the empirical data in the nine roles of Beijing social networks. With regard to the influence of social status on the role of social strata, the obvious difference lies mainly between the professional administrators and the manual workers who are at the poles of the strata structure. This result may be the differentiation of China’s social structure is still in the process, there is no reflection of stereotypes.
