在第十二个五年计划期间,研究急倾斜薄煤层无人工作面的开采设备和工艺是煤炭工业发展的迫切问题之一。目前,采用掩护式联动机组的沿倾斜分条开采薄煤层的工艺已得到广泛推广。这种工艺的缺点是条带长度短,开采阶段高度受限制,因此就需要经常重新安装联动机组和开出空间较大的安装峒室。在这种情况下,安装峒室要借助风镐来开凿,其尺寸沿倾斜达6m,沿走向为掩护式联动机组的长度。开凿峒室的平均速度为2.5m/日。
