Steinbeck is one of the most outstanding novelists in the United States. His most influential work in the country is “Grapes of Fury.” The “Pearl” to be analyzed in this article is another important piece of his work. Related research is not very rich, but there is no doubt that “Pearl” is indeed a very good novella. “Pearl ” is full of symbols and metaphors in this work. It is because of its existence that the novel can critically criticize the reality in a surreal way. In a certain sense, “pearl” is a symbol of capitalism. It looks very bright and full of temptations, but its inside is full of evil and dirty, poisoning every one who owns it.
