Shift lines are used in information handling systems to store data, convert serial data to parallel data (and vice versa), count and perform similar functions. These lines usually include a chain of bistable storage stages. It is generally desirable to complete the shifting operation with minimal power consumption and speed. The circuit shown in FIG. 1 uses a series combination of a tunneling diode TD of the bistable element and a conventional diode D of the resistor R and the Y as an interstage coupling network to accomplish the storage and shifting functions.
