钱锺书先生有云,做学问要反对两种倾向,一是“见树不见林”,另一则是“见林不见树”。近几年我在做“京剧审美和京剧文化”这一门极富生命活力的学问时,就常有这种感慨:既要从学问之“树”观察到微观事物的复杂和深刻,又应当跃升到学问之“林”的高度,去寻求宏观层面上的哲理。 先讲一个例子。去年11月底,上海《新民晚报》忽然电约一篇纪念余叔岩百岁生辰的文章,要求两三天就得交稿。原来自12月3日起,沪上将举行纪念余派的盛大演出。我十分感谢信任,同时又非常踌躇。因为我1942年出生,余叔岩1943年去世;加之这些年
