1988年4月,在云阳县农机局防空洞发生一起因洞内煤炭混合少许木渣燃烧引起的一氧化碳中毒事故,3名小学生死亡。此洞于1968年建成、洞深约200米,有三个出入口。进口接近城内公路,终年敞开,常有职工出入藏取东西和人工培植蘑菇,两个出口分别通往相邻的两个单位,用木门和砖封闭。4月3日上午,云阳镇小学四年级的三名学生进洞戏玩,当晚未见回家,学校家长四处寻找,直至7日上午10时许,农机局的两位职工进洞取东西,才发现距进口20米和40米处有三具儿童尸体。
