Objective To study the mechanism of L-arg on the proliferation of sebaceous gland in rats. Methods Twenty female and male SD adult rats and 20 female SD rats of 5 weeks old were randomly divided into 8 groups according to different sex and age. Four groups of rats of different sex and age were given gavage for 10 days at 10 mg / kg L-arg, and the other four groups were given physiological saline. When the rat’s skin appears moist, oily, yellow stained and other pathological phenomena, take blood for sex hormone test, take the skin tissue for histological observation. Results After L-arg was given into the stomach for 7 days, all the animals in the male adult group had wet, oily and yellow stained hairs on their backs. The serum androgen levels were significantly increased in the adult male rats. Histological observation showed that the sebaceous glands in the skin tissues were extremely rich. Female adult rats treated with time to 14d, 8 cases of animals have wet skin back hair, greasy, yellow dye, histological changes are also abnormal sebaceous proliferation. Serum androgen levels in animals with changes in sebaceous gland hyperplasia were significantly higher than those in the control group and also higher than animals without sebaceous gland hyperplasia. The male and female animals in the 5-week-old mice needed to be dosed for 14 days. All the animals showed damp, oily and yellowish hair on the back skin. The histological changes were also abnormal hyperplasia of the sebaceous gland. The serum androgen levels were significantly higher than those of the control group. Conclusions L-arg can cause abnormal proliferation and secretion of sebaceous glands in normal skin of rats, resulting in moist, oily and yellowish staining of the skin coat, which is closely related to the increase of androgen secretion in rats induced by L-arg and its in vivo production .
