Tony Monarch, the only African-American female writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, has deep feelings for African traditional culture. She skillfully applied this national emotion in her literary works. By distorting and describing the culture of the mainstream Western mythology, she showed the reader the power and the significance of inheritance of the myths of traditional African folklore. This article tries to explore the far-reaching influence of African traditional culture in the literary creation of Afro-American writers by comparing the distortion of the mainstream myths of the West and the specific embodiment of black folk myths in some of her literary works, Inheritance meaning.
