This research report is the first piece of information on REE (rare earth element) in gem-bearing deposits in Sri Lanka. REEs are abundant in these sand deposits, especially LREEs. REE charts for standard meteorites show that REE in the sedimentary gem deposits is significantly similar to REEs in Sri Lanka perilla and other parts of the world, such as peridotitic rocks in southwestern Sweden. The enrichment of light rare earth elements and different negative Eu anomalies pattern. Based on the geology and REE data of gem deposits, it is found that REE protoplasm is commonly associated with magmatic peridotite in all the deposits in the Sri Lankan plateau group. Elemental pairs of Er-Hf, Er-Cc, and Zr-Ti showed good correlation with the other elements, indicating almost no fractionation within the depositional environment.
