The British Medical Journal Vol. 283, No. 6288 (1981), p. 396, reports that for centuries it has been learned that aerial workers are most likely to suffer from acute mountain sickness. Lightweight syndromes include headache, nausea, loss of appetite and weakness. Half of those working above 14,000 feet altitude are sick. Nearly 5% developed severe syndrome with cerebral edema and pulmonary edema. Mountaineers, soldiers and skiers can all get sick, but travelers in the mountains are more common.
