毛竹Phyllostachys pubescens(楠竹)属禾本科,是多年生常绿的单子叶植物,以气候温和湿润,土壤深厚肥沃,排水良好为适生条件。它的垂直分布幅度大,湖南省隆回县从东部丘陵至中部中、低山,直至西北中山原,由海拔300～1400米都有集中连片的竹林,且能在高寒山区正常生长。据农业区划调查统计,一九八二年止,隆回县竹林面积为25万7千亩。我国毛竹生产不但历史悠久,且工艺产品精美,在国际市场上一直占居重要位置。

It can also grow normally in alpine areas. According to the survey of agricultural zoning statistics, as of 1982, the area of bamboo forests in Longhui County was 257,000 mu. China’s bamboo production not only has a long history, and exquisite products, in the international market has been occupying an important position.
