The metal mines in the Løkken region of Norway have been mined for more than 300 years and the mechanization of underground mining of copper-zinc ores has now been completed using the most modern equipment and methods. The Laken region, located in central Norway, 50 km southwest of Trondheim, began mining operations after it first discovered copper-bearing pyrite in 1654. Close to the village of Lecun, the mine is the backbone of Norway’s largest copper-zinc sulphide ore deposit with an initial reserve of about 25 million tonnes, of which 20 million tonnes have been mined. The only remaining work area currently in the area is the Lakken underground copper and zinc mine. The small mine is run by LKK Grub A / S, an equally owned share of the company for Aldkra A / S Industries and Finland’s Outokumpu. Lecong mine produces 21,000 tons of copper concentrate and 5,400 tons of zinc concentrate each year.
