At the end of the war of liberation, there will be a major turning point in Chinese society. At this time, the upper-class liberal intellectuals in China are faced with the choice of whether to go or not. As a result, the vast majority of them stayed on the mainland. What determines their choices? Many people are thinking about this issue today. Historical facts show that the determinant is emotion. Strong patriotic sentiment that will make them reluctant to abandon their homeland; national integrity and national pride determined by patriotic sentiment so that they will not be reluctant to go abroad or Hong Kong as “second-class citizens.” Their abhorrence of the Kuomintang government will make them refuse Chiang Kai-shek’s “rescue”.
