Plants grow in soil that is replete with bacteria,actinomycetes,and fungi.Intensive studies have been conducted on two major symbioses,root nodule symbiosis (RNS) and arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis (AMS) (Bonfante and Genre,2010;Oldroyd,2013).These symbiotic associations allow plants to acquire inorganic or organic nutrients for plant growth promotion (PGP).PGP can also be induced by plant associations with endophytes (a bacterium or fungus) that have been found in all species of plants studied to date.Endophytes can highly colonize plant cells or can reside in the intercellular spaces in roots or leaves without triggering disceable disease symptoms.Despite the diversity of potential contributions of endophytes to plant growth,productivity,and accommodation to the environment,the physiological significance and how they function are still a mystery.
