苯酚中含水量通常用卡尔费休法测定。气相色谱法测定水份具有简单、快速,不需用价格比较贵而有毒性的试剂(如吡啶等)。1969年,E.M.KaziNiK等用聚氧乙烯基乙二醇——4000固定液和酸洗INZ——600耐火砖担体,作苯酚催化加氢所得混合物中水分的气相色谱分析;目前,用GDX为固定相的气相色谱法应用到苯酚中含水量的测定,尚未看到报导。
