季羡林老先生的寓所在北大未名湖畔朗润园13号。他家里除了书,便没有更多的空间了。他是为书而生,为知识而活的人,用季老自己的话说就是,“一生只干了一件事,那就是求知。”季老是著名的语言学教育家、国际知名的印度学专家、东亚最杰出的梵文学者。除大量的专业论著外,还翻译了印度两大史诗之一《罗摩衍那》和梵文作品《沙恭达罗》、英文作品《家庭中的泰戈尔》、德文作品《安娜·西格斯短篇小说集》等。他曾担任30年的北京大学东方语言文学系系主任;担任了5年的北京大学副校长,还任北京大学校务委员会副主任,中国社会科学院学部委员、国务院学部委员会委员等。近年,季老真是大丰收,先后出版了《季羡林文集》24卷、《季羡林散文全编》5卷、《季羡林文丛》4卷、《当代学者自选文 Ji Xianlin old man’s apartment is located in Peking University, Long Run Lake Park on the 13th.
