1904年冬,美国国家地理学会收到一份俄国皇家地理学会寄来的礼物:一个雪茄烟盒大小的铁盒,里面装着50幅拍摄西藏的底片。底片的摄影师是后来成为俄国著名东方学家、地理学家和探险家的G.T·崔比科夫(1873—1930)。崔比科夫1895年毕业于圣彼得堡大学东方语言系,1899年11月,受俄国皇家地理学会派遣赴西藏考察,他扮成一名到西藏朝圣的布里亚特蒙古族香客,带着一名仆人于1900年8月到达西藏,其后在西藏和青海漫游近两年,拍摄了大量照片,成为最早拍摄西藏的重要人物之一。
In the winter of 1904, the National Geographic Society received a gift from the Royal Russian Geographical Society: a cigar-sized tin box containing 50 negatives of a Tibetan film. The film’s photographer was later G.T Cuiukkov (1873-1930), a famous Russian Orientalist, geographer and explorer. Cui Piccov graduated from the Oriental Language Department of St. Petersburg University in 1895. In November 1899, he was dispatched by the Russian Royal Geographical Society to visit Tibet. He became a Buryat Mongolian pilgrim who pilgrimage to Tibet with a servant in 1900 He arrived in Tibet in August of the following year and later roamed in Tibet and Qinghai for nearly two years and shot a large number of photos and became one of the earliest persons who shot Tibet.
