As early as 1923, the British Archives Working Conference had proposed that the humid environment is one of the major threats to archiving. In response to this threat, Haber Freu pointed out that maintaining a stable temperature and humidity status is an important function of archives. Continual ventilation is the most basic condition to resist dampness. Ventilation plays an important role in the preservation of documents. Some architects of archives make full use of traditional techniques, such as simple natural ventilation, to ensure that indoor air flows smoothly. However, this measure contains an inevitable contradiction: the influx of air will bring other harmful substances. Ventilation, though it can eliminate the intrusion of rats and pests, can not prevent the entry of large amounts of dust, at least in urban areas. The complexity of this paradox has so far been slightly diminished because the dust problem can be solved either by using vacuum cleaners or by vacuum, but it still raises many of the problems that exist today that are worth pondering. Today, about 60 years after Fro’s point of view was published, people became more aware of the dangers of keeping paper and parchment. At the same time, the technical means used to prevent these dangers far outweigh Froth’s vacuum cleaners. The first repository in the United Kingdom with air-conditioning equipment is the Upper House Archives in Victoria Tower. It is 60 years
