关于具有新株型的“国际稻8号”(“IR-8”)和“台中本地1号”品种与其他一般高秆品种“ADT.27号”、“Co·29号、”“TKM·6号”、“Co·32号”和“ASD·1号”杂交的杂种第一代杂种优势的表现,杂种第二代群体性状的分离与重组,及对由此选出的三个有希望的矮秆品种“Karuna”(“国际稻8号”דADT·27号”)、“Kanchi”(“台中本地1号”דCo·29号”)和“Cauvery”(“台中本地1号”דTKM·6号”)的穗长、小穗数和节间长的关系进行了研究。株高、穗数、小穗不育、谷粒产量与稻秆产量诸性状表现杂种优势。植株习性、叶色、株高、稃色、稃端色及米色等性状遗传似乎包括一个以上基因。在杂种第二代,高秆植株群体比矮秆植株群体的穗长与小穗数更有密切相关。在分离出的矮秆植株群体中,穗长与谷粒产量的相关表现出高于与小穗数的相关,而在高秆群体中,小穗数与谷粒产量有高度相关。穗数与谷粒产量有非常高的相关,其组合程度在高秆植株群体中多于矮秆群体。而且,分离出的矮秆植株的穗数与株高之间的相关较弱。在矮秆品种“Karuna”、“Kanchi”及“Cauvery”中,穗长与小穗数如同与三个基部节间一样,具有高度相关。

There was a very high correlation between panicle number and grain yield, and the combination degree was higher in dwarf stalks than in tall stalks. Moreover, the correlation between the number of spikes and plant height of isolated dwarf plants is weak. In the dwarf varieties “Karuna”, “Kanchi” and “Cauvery”, the spike length and the number of spikelets are as highly correlated as the three basal internodes.
