WHO website May 23, 2012 World Health Organization (WHO) published on May 23, 2012 a preliminary estimate entitled “The dose of nuclear accident after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and the tsunami Results ”report. In this report, WHO presented preliminary estimates of public radiation doses in the first year following the Fukushima Daiichi accident. Based on the results of the radiological survey as of September 2011 and the relevant data, WHO calculated effective doses and thyroid doses to different populations (by age and geographical location). According to the report, based on the Chernobyl nuclear accident experience, 30% of the radiation dose received by the public was received in the first year after the accident and about 70% of the radiation dose was received in the first 15 years after the accident.
