英语情态动词语义特征复杂多变。准情态动词作为英语情态动词重要的组成部分,其语义特征具有梯度、歧义、重合三种语义不确定性类型。基于Coates对情态动词语义不确定性的分类,探讨英语中准情态动词的语义特征。以准情态动词have to为例,具体分析了准情态动词的语义不确定性。对准情态动词语义不确定性进行分析将为情态语义识别,促进语义学及应用语言学的发展做出贡献。
The semantic features of English modal verbs are complicated and changeable. Quasi-modal verbs, as an important part of English modal verbs, have three kinds of semantic uncertainty: gradient, ambiguity and coincidence. Based on Coates’ classification of the semantic uncertainty of modal verbs, this paper explores the semantic features of quasi-modal verbs in English. In the case of quasi-modal verbs, the author analyzes the semantic uncertainty of quasi-modal verbs in detail. Analyzing the semantic uncertainty of modal verbs will contribute to the recognition of modal semantic and the development of semantics and applied linguistics.
