In the contemporary American literary scene with novels in college, Oates’s novels are unique. Its extraordinary point is that she conscientiously combines the keen observation of writers, the rational thinking of scholars and the unique perspective of women. Although the “Secularised” university presented by Oates novels also surges in the excitement of culture and the vortex of politics, her works did not stop at the level of exposing and criticizing. Instead, she called for the construction of a culture based on ethics of care On the harmonious campus culture. Although her novels are mysterious and elusive due to inclusion of Gothic narrative elements, her college figures are often nihilistic. However, her hiding of human nature is still hidden behind this postmodern appearance. Regardless of how she changes her writing style, with the aim of softening competition and substituting mutual indifference with indifference, she is the real lifeline of her college novels.
