Objective To investigate the serum iron load and blood glucose and blood lipid status of welders. Methods A total of 100 persons from the welder and control group were enrolled in this study. Serum iron, transferrin, fasting blood glucose (FPG), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol -C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and other indicators. Results The level of serum iron in welder group was significantly lower than that in control group (P <0.05). There was no significant difference in FPG concentration between the two groups. TG and LDL-C in welder group were significantly lower than those in control group (P <0.01) ), HDL-C was higher than the control group (P <0.01). Multivariate linear stepwise regression analysis showed that the final model of welder into the model of FPG are mainly affected by age; the main impact on the TG is the body mass index (BMI); the main impact on LDL-C serum iron and length of service , With elevated serum iron levels and length of service, LDL-C will rise. No significant correlations between TC and HDL-C and study factors were found in the welder group. Conclusion The iron content in the welding group did not increase due to the contact with the iron oxide in the welding dust, but was significantly lower than that in the control group. Serum iron in the welder group may have an effect on LDL. Affect the blood lipids, blood sugar, the factors of age and BMI more obvious. The working crowd should adopt a good lifestyle to control their weight and make their healthier.
